Quality of the new locks - Seahose and Dolphin
I went to my LD this weekend to "inspect" the new collection and she showed me the new locks compared to older ones. Sadly, the new ones look weak and scrawny. It's as if TB wants to save money on the raw material.
Here's a picture of them next to each other:

Re: Quality of the new locks - Seahose and Dolphin
I saw them yesterday and didn't think they looked too flimsy, but I didn't compare them, that is quite a difference
I think they are too cutesy for me anyway, but I think I'm gonna need a Toad/Chickenpox lock, no one could call that cute !

Re: Quality of the new locks - Seahose and Dolphin
I am getting too old and shaky for smaller locks
No, seriously when trying out the new small locks at my LD, there is a problem for me, especially when using leather bracelets. Fastening would get more difficult for me.
Furthermore the dolphin, which I liked the most, bit my sensitive skin.
None of the new and smaller locks for me.
SO I have been enjoying my old locks and may buy some more before they retire.

When I saw them in a shop, even the shop-owner wondered, if they would hold a full bracelet.
I am sorry to say, that I don't like the new locks.
Having a seahorse lock could have been so great - but this design doesn't do it for me.

I still like the look of the pox clasp. Is it all really shiny or is it oxidized between the bumps?

I like the seahorse lock, but it is sad that they are shrinking....the new plain lock has shrunk too

I love my pox lock even more now I've seen these cute little things! Mine's really darkly oxidized and grungy aprilshack, only the little bobbles shine (and I oxidized it some more when I got it, I love it blacker than black
)

Wonder it TB would consider doing an all over oxidized black looking clasp in the future?

Thanks for showing. I still like the seahorse though. And I was wondering, aren't the new bicolour locks the same shape? Would those also look so flimsy next to the older locks?
Anyway, I really like the look and will buy the seahorse one day. I'm trying to stay confident that they still hold the weight, although they might look a little less secure, maybe we're just to critical *wishful thinking*

I am waiting for an honest dealer to have a really good go at breaking one of the new locks and to tell me how easy or hard it is to do that.

Thickness may not always be conclusive.
For the Faerybeads dragon locks we apply special treatments to assure the tail is extremely strong despite its slender appearance. But it is jewelry, it may not withstand a forceful pull.
TFS Nkara! Very helpful to see them all together!

You took great care to test your locks and send examples out for users to try them too. I want to know if the same has been done with the Trollbeads locks.

The new locks don't look secure at all. I would not take a chance with one of those
Thank you for the comparison Nkara.

I have asked a dealer who is also a goldsmith on Facebook and he insists that the locks are strong enough.

Re: Quality of the new locks - Seahose and Dolphin
I wish they had made the eye smaller on the Seahorse and the Seahorse bigger! I think it is just an okay lock, but I agree with Fuzzyfeet, I would rather have a Toad lock!
I have been wearing it and it seems strong. Being kind you could say it is delicate and feminine. But I would take ugly any day! I think a Toad lock would look great on a Sea themed bracelet with Conch. Damn, why didn't I think of that before???

Thanks for the pics. No new locks for me. They are too cute and I love chunkier ones.

Re: Quality of the new locks - Seahose and Dolphin
When I heard that the new plain lock was smaller my first thought was to get another larger one (even though I have two now) while I still could. One of my earliest attractions to TB was the size of the locks. I hope that this doesn't mean that we can forget about bigger locks altogether in the future. I initially planned on getting the new seahorse lock, and possibly the dolphin, but am not so enamored with them now that I can see the size difference. I don't know, maybe I would like them on leather bracelets.
Thanks for sharing the pics.
