I bought some plain 17mm sew on snaps off etsy. Hunted far and wide for some pretty buttons and glued them on. The hardest part was using the Dremel to grind down the shanks on the 1st two on bottom row.

I've had some great tips from other ladies in case you're interested, let me know.

So very pretty TrollBlossom! Well done. I especially love the green and blue ones on the bottom row. You had hunted very well for those two marvellous buttons.
I have never tried making chunks myself but I feel very temped by seeing your very pretty ones. sunny

I would be interested in how to make them as well. They look great, particularly the labradorite and the moon faces Smile

The 1st step is to start w/ 17mm sew on snaps. The first link-Ebay (buttonkingdom88)- are the ones that I have used so far but of course he is out of them! I've already emailed the company to ask when they will have more but he didn't have an answer.

The following links are other 17mm snaps that I have purchased but not received yet so I can't vouch on the quality.

Look for 16mm (5/8”) or 17mm (11/16”) flat back cabochons or buttons. The lady who gave me these tips has been collecting cabochons and buttons for years. She likes to have a variety of snaps because even though they are all 17mm some cabochons/buttons fit better in some snaps and some in others. Sometimes you have to remove the shank of the button and sometimes it fits down into the indentation of the snap. Make sure that the cabochons are “flat backed” or they won’t sit as well.
Clean the snap and the back of the button/cabochon with rubbing alcohol. She uses a Q-Tip, let the pieces dry. She prefers to use E-6000 adhesive and I found it in the craft store, Michael’s. Squeeze out a small amount of adhesive. Spread a thin layer on both pieces using a tooth pick. Let the two pieces sit for a few minutes and then put them together. The E-6000 directions say to let them dry for 24-72 hours.

I hope that I didn’t miss anything. Let me know if I did or if you have any questions.

That's the hard part or you can consider it the fun part. Searching out the correct size that you like.

There is a button collector society meeting next weekend and there will be selling buttons there. What a great place to look for buttons. Unfortunately, it's 2.5 hours away and I really don't feel like going by myself. Oh well. Plus my car is so old that I don't trust it that far! Shocked

I've tried so hard to find more of those buttons. I contacted the woman that I purchased them from and she doesn't have anymore. Disappointing because I would love more of those. They are vintage from the 1950s and handpainted from Germany or Czechoslovakia.
